ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS

The Legal Aid Clinic is constituted under the School of Law UPES with the objective of  promoting access to justice in India by providing and fostering pro bono legal services for underprivileged individuals. In order to promote learning of legal problems in the society and to initiate discussions amongst students, the clinic organises legal awareness programs among students and teachers in the government schools.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The Legal Aid Clinic of UPES, Dehradun has organised National Article Writing Competition 2020 focusing on the theme of “FREE LEGAL SERVICES”, aiming to impart knowledge about the basic legal rights, duties and the remedies which an individual should be aware of in his/her daily living and utilise them whenever needed. It aims to make people aware of the various mechanisms, organs and statutes of the justice delivery system available to them for grievance redressal and to sensitize them towards utilization of the grievance redressal organs of the justice system. It also attempts to make people aware of the role of Lok Adalat, Free Legal Aid and District Legal Services Authority.

The main theme for the competition is “Free Legal Services”
Sub-themes are as under:• Free Legal Aid• Lok Adalat• Article 39 of the Indian Constitution• Legal Aid Clinics in Law Schools• Legal Literacy Programmes• District Legal Services Authorities• Free Legal Advices by Law Practitioners

Please note that this list is not exhaustive and participants are free to select any other topic related to the broad theme.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES• The Competition is open to students pursuing 3-year or 5-year LL.B, LL.M from recognised institutions across the country.• Articles must be submitted in MS Word (.doc/ .docx) format or PDF.• The word-limit is 1500-2000 words exclusive of the footnotes and abstract. The author may or may not include abstract in the articles. The abstract is required to be submitted with the registration form. • Co-authorship is permitted up to two authors only.• The authors are not allowed to use any content from online or offline resources without proper credits. Non-compliance shall render the submission plagiarised and the submission will be disqualified.• The File name of the submission must be as follows:▪ In case of Single Author – ‘full name of the author.docx/.pdf’▪ In case of Co-authors – ‘first name of Authors 1& 2.docx/.pdf’• The last page of the submission must include the following:▪ Name of the Author(s)▪ Name of the Institution.• The submission guidelines must be strictly complied with.• The copyright of the published articles shall vest with the UPES School of Law.

FORMATTING GUIDELINES• For the body of the submission: Times New Roman, Font size-12, Line-spacing-1.5 and Justified.• For the footnotes: Times New Roman, Font size-10, Line-spacing 1.0.• Any uniform method of citation must be used for the footnotes.

PRIZES & PERKS• 1st place: Cash Rs.10,000/- & E-Certificate of Merit• 2nd place: Cash Rs.5000/- & E-Certificate of Merit• 3rd place: Cash Rs.3000/- & E-Certificate of Merit• 2 consolation prizes of Rs.1000/- & E-Certificate of Merit• Top 10 entries will be awarded with E-Certificate of Merit• Top 15 entries will be compiled and published.• All participants will be awarded with E-Certificate of Participation
