Think India is an active forum of students, researchers and professional where various issues of national importance are debated, concerns are raised and innovative solutions are offered. It is an initiative to bring together best minds in the nation and to inculcate in them the Nation-First attitude.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The impromptu debate is an individual event that consists of just one competitor giving a speech against other competitors that give their speech at a separate time. Impromptu differs from other forms of debate because the speaker is required to think on the spot while using logic and performance.

Date: 21st and 22nd November, 2020

GENERAL RULES 1. No participant shall address the assembly without firstobtaining permission and direction from the adjudicators.2. Members speaking shall confine themselves to the question under debate and avoid personalities and slang language.3. No new matter shall be introduced in the reply, and allspeakers should avoid tedious repetition and trivia.4. While speaking in the event, the participants are bound tospeak in English.5. For reference, use of a note card is only permitted.6. Participants are going to be adjudicated on the basis ofspeaking skills – distinction and clear steady voice is a pre-requisite.7. Humour is expected and encouraged.8. Eye contact is imperative.9. The final result is going to be announced by adjudicator and the same decision will be final and binding.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

The event will be impromptu and the participants will be given the topic on the spot. The whole consists of 3 rounds- Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, Final.

ROUND 1 Quarter-finals • This round will welcome 50 participants.• The participants will be divided into equal halves and their motions will be given with the allotment of the topic. The participants will be given a topic to debate upon on the spot.• There will be a 10-minute preparation time given after theallotment of the topic.• The time limit per Speaker will be 5 Minutes. The rebuttals will be on the discretion of the Adjudicators.Only 25 participants will proceed for next round.

ROUND 2 Semi-finals• This round will welcome 25 participants.• The participants will be divided into equal halves and their motions will be given with the allotment of the topic. The participants will be given a topic to debate upon on the spot.• There will be a 10-minute preparation time given after theallotment of the topic.• The time limit per Speaker will be 8 Minutes.• Rebuttals in this round will be on the discretion of theAdjudicators. The end of this round will eliminate 15 participants.

ROUND 3 Finals• This round will welcome 10 participants. The participants will be divided into equal halves and their motions will be given with the allotment of the topic.• Draw of lots will be done, to decide who will be speaking by which side.• The participants will be given a topic to debate upon on the spot.• There will be a 10-minute preparation time given after theallotment of the topic.• The time limit per Speaker will be 10 Minutes. The rebuttals will be on discretion of the Adjudicators.• At the end of this round – the winners will be announced.
